About Tom Geary


I have an established professional record in education, counselling and psychotherapy scholarship and practice. I have gained experience in management, leadership, teaching/lecturing in both Post Primary and University settings. I was Head of an Academic Department, University of Limerick Assistant Principal, Guidance Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Teacher in Post Primary Education. I am currently a Lecturer Emeritus (University of Limerick) in the following areas i.e. Human Communications, Personal Development, Self Esteem, Social/ Emotional Development and Professional Identity in Initial Teacher Education Programmes, Advanced Counselling Theory & Practice, Theory & Skills of Experiential Group Learning, Research Methods in Psychotherapy and Integrative Psychotherapy in the post graduate suite of MA Programmes in Guidance Counselling and Psychotherapy at University of Limerick. I initiated the inclusion of University of Limerick as part of the National Pilot for Newly Qualified Teachers and lectured/facilitated sessions on personal development and reflective practice at the Mentors and Mentees Seminars.

I was a member of the Department of Education and Science National Resource Team for the delivery of Continuous Professional Development to Primary/Post Primary teachers in the area of Social Personal and Health Education.
